BAGGERMOUTH: Good day Mr Ejike
EJIKE: hello
BAGGERMOUTH: so, who is Ejike?
EJIKE: hmmm. Ejike is a cool young man from Anambra state. Born to the family of Onuorah of Anambra state. Ejike is a
student of the University of Benin.
BAGGERMOUTH: interesting! so aside being a designer, what else do you do?
EJIKE: i am very much into politics. i love humanity and making people happy so anything i can do to achieve that
would have been cool.
BAGGERMOUTH: when did fashion designing start for you?
EJIKE: i have always loved fashion since i was 15 because, i grew up in a family that has a business venture which
import fabrics. the real deal though started December 31st 2009
BAGGERMOUTH: really!
So your brand name…J.M.C AFRIKANA, why Africa? it looks as though you are stream lined to just African
designs
EJIKE: i brought in the name ‘Afikana’ because, i saw the need to promote African designs and fabrics-like the Ankara.
i do not do just African designs though. my plan is to use African prints to achieve even what clothing made
of English fabric achieve. i want to show the world what Africa has got and to let our people know that
African fabric can also be used to get to the world standard.
BAGGERMOUTH: you design just for male or both sexes?
EJIKE: both male and female
BAGGERMOUTH: which do you find more challenging?
EJIKE: designing for females i would say
BAGGERMOUTH: how far would you say this has taken you thus far?
EJIKE: i am not where i want to be yet mainly owing to my location and because i am still in school but i have gone
farther than i thought. i have gone as far as Ghana for shows and have been privileged to attend many fashion
shows in Nigeria where i have always been tops. i have met people that ordinarily may not have been able to
meet.
BAGGERMOUTH: could you name a few?
EJIKE: yes! Slick fashion show, Evol fashion challenge, Runway ripples…
BAGGERMOUTH: you have done very well for yourself
any advise for aspiring designers?
EJIKE: my advice for them is first for them to know that is not what one just jumps into. it involves hard work
because u have to think and constantly come up with new things and it is not easy to please clients. in all,
look up to God because nothing is easy without God. and we also have to sell Africa to the world so they
should work their hardest and be the best in whatever field of fashion they choose. lastly they should know
that creatures on earth are waiting for the manifestation of the children of God and we cant afford to fail
God and Africa.
BAGGERMOUTH: nicely said.
it has been a pleasure chatting with you. thank you for your time.
EJIKE: my pleasure.
