Whoever said baking
was hard, buhu!
I come from a very
industrious family. I have a civil engineer dad who has virtually ventured into
almost all other branches of his field, great with electrical works and
repairs, creative with steel and wood, and did I mention he is a fantastic
cook? On the other hand, is my mom ; a Nurse who bakes, a great event manager
and a terrific cook. Then again, there are my siblings; my brother and my
sister. My brother, a diplomat turned model, slash event planner, slash baker,
slash crowd puller (if that counts as anything....lol). My sister... it’s so
hard to actually pin point anything. She virtually can do anything so long she
sees it at all. Name it, hair making, nails fixing, ‘minor’ electrical works,
baking, great experimental cooking, the list goes on and on.
Now, when God was
creating this great industrious family, he looked at the couple, and something
was missing. He sent a son child. Uhmmmm, he thought. Something’s still
missing? Jesus asked. Yes! God answered. Then, he sent a daughter child thinking
it would make it the perfect family. What, this isn’t perfect enough for you?
Jesus asked. Eureka! God screamed. One more Son. One that would totally
complete this family. One that would be combination of not just cuteness and
brains, built and charm, but also have every handwork the other members of the
family have and even more, God added.
I don’t mean to brag
but that’s how I came into existence. I grew in wisdom, in stature, in
awesomeness and possessed all sorts of hand work. I sew, I write, I
dance, I cook, I’m an aspiring OAP, award winning bathroom singer, up and coming photographer, I do a little
bit of electrical work, plumbing work, I am terrific with ideas and plan
awesome events...sigh. I can barely remember what else I do. Yet, in my ‘amazing-ness’,
something was lacking. There was one obvious aspect I hadn’t ventured into.
It was my birthday and
I needed a cake. No one was going to help me out. My mom was busy with work, my
brother was out of town, and my sister is “far too nice” to help me with
anything. Well, like you can already guess, I decided to bake my birthday cake
and I iced it as well but this isn’t much of a big deal to me even though I’m
blogging about it because I iced my 13th birthday cake all by myself.
Enough of how awesome
I am. I want to share my method of baking with you. I want you to know that
there is no big deal in baking a simple cake and you shouldn’t let anyone brag
on you when you can as well bake for yourself. So, that being said, this is how
I went about it:
Ingredients
Flour---------------------------------675g (1 ½ 450g of blue band margarine cup
:450+225=675 *winks)
Butter-------------------------------2 sachets of Simas butter
Sugar--------------------------------500g
Eggs----------------------------------10 eggs
Flavour(s) -------------------------- vanilla, butterscotch and
strawberry
Baking powder
Preservative (or alcohol)
Method
*cream your butter and sugar long enough for it to almost completely
lose its yellow colour to cream
*break and beat your eggs in a bowl
*mix your baking powder in your flour in a bowl (add your preservative
if you use powdered one)
*pour your beat eggs into the creamed butter and sugar and mix well
*add your powered mixtures (flour, baking powder, and preservative)
and mix in one direction (clockwise or anti-clockwise)
*add a bottle cover of all your flavours (the flavour bottle cover oo)
*add your alcohol if you are using one
*pour mixture your greased baking pan(s) and put in the oven to bake
for 50mins to 1hour (depending on the size of your cake though)
Icing
Ingredients: 2 icing sugar, 1 ½ Simas butter and cherry*
Method
*cream your butter and icing sugar till they mix together
*Add colour if desired
*put in your icing pump and you are good to ice your cake
N.B:
All procedures and ingredients above are what I used for mine. Baking
could include a lot more ingredients and methods than these.
So, next time you feel
like eating a cake, no matter who you are, look within you and tell yourself ‘
yes! I can’ and get baking. There’s nothing to it.
Enjoy!
